Comments (-1) STATE TESTING BEGINS IN APRIL State testing will take place for St. Bernard Parish students throughout the months of April and May. Paper-based testing will be given to students in grades 3 and 4. Computer-based testing will be given to grades 5-8. High school students taking Algebra I, Geometry, English I, English II, Biology, and U.S. History will take the LEAP2025 assessment for each of these courses throughout the month of May. Comments (-1) Registration for Pre-K 4 Opens St. Bernard Parish Public School District is one of the few districts in the state to offer a universal, tuition free Four Year Old Preschool Program. This program is for all children residing in the parish who will be four years of age by September 30, 2020. Comments (-1) St. Bernard Community Band Rehearsals The St. Bernard Community Concert Band is reuniting and looking for musicians to join. Rehearsals are every Wednesday starting tomorrow from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Andrew Jackson Middle School. Drop-ins are welcome. Comments (-1) St. Bernard Parish Educator Finalist for National Teacher of the Year Seventy five students and administrators gathered in the library at Chalmette High School this afternoon to share in the great news – Chalmette High School history teacher was just announced as a 2020 National Teacher of the Year Finalist. Dier chose to celebrate this amazing accomplishment with the students he says made it all possible. Comments (-1) Five CHS Seniors Awarded Posse Scholarship Since 2011, the Posse Foundation has awarded $42.6 million in scholarship money to high school scholars in the greater New Orleans area. The highly competitive scholarships are given to only approximately 50 area seniors each year and award four-year, full tuition, merit-based leadership scholarships to the recipients. Comments (-1) CHS Volleyball Coach Earns 700th Win Kelli Plaiscia, Chalmette High School’s veteran volleyball coach, achieved a remarkable feat recently – earning her 700th career win in a victory over St. Martin. Comments (-1) Knights of Columbus Continues to Support Schools The Knights of Columbus Archbishop Rummel Council No. 5747 presented a $5,000 check to the St. Bernard Parish School Board made possible with proceeds from the Louisiana Crawfish Festival. Comments (-1) School Board Lions Club Donates to League of Angels The St. Bernard Parish School Board Lions Club donated $1500 to the League of Angels recently – a community organization that provides recreational opportunities for children with disabilities in St. Bernard Parish. Comments (-1) St. Bernard Autism Krewe Partners with Schools The St. Bernard Autism Awareness Krewe presented the St. Bernard Parish School Board with a generous $10,000 check at a recent Board meeting. The Krewe’s partnership with the school district will provide tools to students with sensory needs.
